About

The photographer behind the lens

Based in the American Southwest, Duane Wright has spent over a decade crafting images that feel as honest as the people in them.

“I don't manufacture moments. I wait for them — and when they arrive, I'm ready.”

A practice built on patience

Photography found me before I found it. Growing up in the desert, I was drawn to the way light behaved differently here — harder, more directional, unforgiving in the best way.

After studying fine art photography at Plaza 3 Academy of Arizona, I spent years assisting commercial photographers in the Phoenix area before opening my own studio.  Eventually over the years I discovered my enthusiasm for everything about nature and the outdoors, and that led me to a career change doing landscape architecture. The years spent as a landscape architect have deepened my appreciation for the beauty of the natural world. Somewhere along that journey, I found my way back to my first love:  photography. What began as a passion has been rekindled through years of observing, interpreting, and creating with the landscape. Now I find myself wanting to recapture the beauty I have spent a lifetime learning to see.

Today I work primarily with individuals, families, and businesses who want images that feel natural. Not polished to the point of fiction, but honest in a way that holds up over time.

How I work

Unhurried

Every session is given the time it needs. I don't rush the quiet moments — they're usually the best ones.

Collaborative

You know yourself better than I do. My job is to create the conditions for you to show up fully.

Intentional

Every frame is a decision. I'm not spraying and praying — I'm waiting for the image to arrive.

Honest

I don't believe in heavy retouching. The goal is to look like the best version of yourself, not someone else.
